This year the SAFEXPLAIN project will partake in this workshop lead by IKERLAN on mixed critical systems. The workshop will take place on 19 January from 10h-17:30h.
The HiPEAC conference is the premier European forum for experts in computer architecture, programming models, compilers and operating systems for general-purpose, embedded and cyber-physical systems. Areas of focus and integration include safety-critical dependencies, cybersecurity, energy efficiency and machine learning.

MCS : Mixed Critical Systems – Safe and Secure Intelligent CPS and the development cycle
In the contemporary era, our society is increasingly immersed in cutting-edge embedded systems, which often amalgamate a wide array of functions, each with varying degrees of criticality, particularly in terms of safety and security. This amalgamation of functions into a single system characterizes what we refer to as Mixed-Criticality Cyber-Physical Systems (MCCPS). This phenomenon is on the rise, especially with the emergence of high-performance heterogeneous systems that combine diverse architectures such as GPUs, FPGAs, and Multicores within the same hardware chip. MCCPS are primarily deployed in mission-critical domains like automotive, railway, robotics, and aerospace, and they are transitioning towards autonomous or automated functionalities. Achieving this transition necessitates three essential elements: a continuous development process for functionality, real-time high-performance platforms that ensure safety and security during execution, and a development life cycle that incorporates safety and security measures in accordance with forthcoming standards. This workshop is dedicated to delving into these key components for the creation of dependable autonomous systems:
- Explainable Safe Artificial Intelligence: The workshop will delve into the development of Artificial Intelligence that not only exhibits safety but is also explainable, making its decision-making processes transparent and comprehensible.
- Safe and Secure Real-Time High-Performance Platforms: It will focus on the design and implementation of high-performance platforms that not only deliver real-time capabilities but also prioritize safety and security during the execution of system functions.
- Safe and Secure Development Life Cycle: The workshop will cover the entire development process, emphasizing verification, validation, and testing mechanisms that align with emerging standards to ensure the safety and security of the systems being created.
The workshop will feature presentations of ongoing research related to the safety and security of Artificial Intelligence, the continuum development process, and high-performance platforms. It will kick off with a round table discussion involving industry and academia experts who will share their perspectives on these critical topics.
