SAFEXPLAIN partners from IKERLAN and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center met with TÜV Rheinland experts on 22 January 2024 to share the project´s AI-Functional Safety Management (AI-FSM) methodology. This meeting provided an important opportunity for the project to present its work to an important player in safety certification.

During the course of the meeting, project partners presented the AI-FSM in depth and fielded questions from TÜV Rheinland experts. This technical assesment aimed to assess the soundess of the procedures. Overall, the meeting yielded positive feedback with experts concluding that the safety considerations taken into account in the AI-FSM could be suitable for future certifiability.

The AI-FSM comprises a set of procedures, guidelines, and templates that specify the execution of critical projects incorporating AI-based functions with functional safety considerations. These guidelines aim to ensure that the project is carried out in accordance with the requirements of functional safety standards.

The SAFEXPLAIN project is proactive in its efforts to share its technical contributions with internal experts and external certification authorities and experts whose opinions are invaluable for ensuring the feasibility of the project´s safety pattern approach and functional safety techniques to be used at different stages of the lifecycle.

Project partner exida has been contributing its own expertise in certification to the project and continual assessment and feedback provided. The meeting with TÜV Rheinland represented the first external assessment of the project methodology. and provided an important milestone for the project, to ensure that its solutions are feasible and useful.
