The SAFEXPLAIN project has worked to advance Europe’s vision for trustworthy and human-centred AI through its strong collaboration with key European AI initiatives and fellow research projects. Over its lifetime, the project has actively contributed to strengthening the European AI landscape by ensuring that its results feed into the broader digital transformation and trustworthy AI agenda.
Driving Synergies Across Europe’s AI Landscape
From its early months, SAFEXPLAIN engaged closely with two major European Commission-funded Coordination and Support Actions (CSAs): the AI, Data and Robotics Association and ecosystem (ADRAe) and the AI4Europe / AI-on-Demand Platform (AIoD). These collaborations increased project visibility, facilitated co-dissemination opportunities, and ensured that SAFEXPLAIN’s results were accessible to the wider European AI community.
The project took part in five high-level ecosystem events coordinated by the CSAs, including:
2022 Launch Event – “Paving the way towards the next generation of R&I excellence in AI, Data and Robotics”
ADRF 2023 and ADRF 2024 – featuring SAFEXPLAIN presentations and a project roll-up
2024 AI Convergence Summit – hosting a project-branded digital booth
2025 Future Ready Event – contributing to the Birds of a Feather session “TrustworthyAI Cluster: Main innovations and future challenges”
The project’s profile, news, case studies and webinar materials have been continuously available through the AIoD platform and the ADR Awareness Centre, contributing to a long-term digital footprint that benefits researchers, industry stakeholders and policymakers.
A Strong TrustworthyAI Cluster Built on Collaboration
Beyond the CSAs, SAFEXPLAIN has actively worked with fellow projects funded under the same call (HORIZON-CL4-2021-HUMAN-01-01). These projects collectively formed the TrustworthyAI Cluster, a self-organised community committed to transparency, verifiable robustness and trustworthy AI adoption in Europe.
Monthly cluster exchanges and seven joint activities significantly amplified the project’s impact. Highlights include:
A joint introductory workshop on next-generation intelligent and autonomous systems
A cluster press release marking the collaboration
A synergy meeting with the ULTIMATE project
A birds-of-a-feather webinar on verifiable robustness and transparency, hosted by ADRAe
A joint digital booth at the 2024 ADR Exhibition
Joint participation in the HiPEAC 2025 Mixed Critical Systems workshop
A shared presence at the 2025 Future Ready Event in Brussels, presenting results and recommendations to the European Commission
Bilateral exchanges with other related EU-funded projects further extended the project’s collaborative network.
A Lasting Contribution to Europe’s Trustworthy AI Agenda
By building bridges across research teams and EU initiatives, SAFEXPLAIN significantly broadened its reach and contributed meaningfully to Europe’s trustworthy AI objectives.
The project’s collective efforts within the TrustworthyAI cluster have laid the groundwork for continued collaboration, ensuring that the research community remains aligned and prepared to tackle the next generation of AI challenges.
